
Korça Police have made an official announcement about the death of 14-year-old Leo Sadiku, a resident of the village of Pocestë in Maliq. The minor lost his life at the QSUT where he was being treated for flu and COVID symptoms.
According to the Korça Police, the 14-year-old died of natural causes at the QSUT, after suffering cardiac arrest.”On 08.01.2025, at the QSUT, Tirana, a 14-year-old resident of the village of Pocestë, Maliq, lost his life. From the first investigative actions, it is suspected that this citizen lost his life due to natural causes (cardiac arrest),” the Police statement states.
Meanwhile, doctors at Korça Hospital explain that the 12-year-old, after his health stabilized on December 31st and at the request of his family, was discharged from the hospital.
During his hospitalization, he was treated with antibiotics, infusions, and stomach medications.
All treatment was based on the results of the tests. On the 7th, when he presented again at the Korça hospital emergency room, his health condition was stabilized, although he presented in a very serious situation at the hospital and due to the symptoms, which are the same for several diagnoses, it was possible to immediately leave for the capital for specialized treatment and in-depth health examinations.
It is specified that the case was followed with priority at the Southeast Hospital by health personnel. Meanwhile, what is known is that there is no pediatric cardiologist at the Korça Hospital. On the other hand, the Korça Prosecutor’s Office has launched investigations into the causes of the incident.
Meanwhile, the QSUT, in a statement distributed to the media, explained that Leo Sadiku had been diagnosed with acute myocarditis, a rare and dangerous disease, which is associated with a high mortality rate.
“Despite maximum care and treatments performed according to medical protocols, the patient’s death was impossible to prevent,” explains the QSUT.
“QSUT expresses its deepest condolences to the family of 12-year-old LS at this difficult time. Given the public interest in the tragic case of the 12-year-old’s passing, we inform you that patient LS was hospitalized at the QSUT Pediatric Hospital on January 7, 2024 and passed away on January 8, 2025, at 01:45, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Service. After the examinations performed, the patient was diagnosed with acute myocarditis, a rare and dangerous disease, which is associated with a high mortality rate. Despite maximum care and treatments performed according to medical protocols, the patient’s passing was impossible to prevent. Understanding the family’s pain and the public’s interest, QSUT reaffirms its commitment to transparency and to providing the best treatments for every patient.”
