
Gramoz (Dritan) Rexhepi, one of the most wanted persons in Albanian justice, appeared this Friday at the Special Court for the hearing to assess the conditions of the security measure, following his extradition from Turkey on Wednesday. On the same day, Rexhepi is expected to be part of the next court hearing for the trial being held in absentia regarding the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga, an event that occurred on January 17, 2020.
Rexhepi, known for his extensive criminal activity, is accused by the Special Prosecution Office of the kidnapping and hiding of Jan Prenga’s body, an act that is believed to have been committed due to a debt related to drug trafficking.
In addition, Rexhepi has a long history with the justice system. In 1998, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of two police officers in Fushë-Krujë. He is also known for spectacular prison escapes, including an escape from Pavia prison in Italy in 2008 and another from Belgium. In 2013, he used a forged passport to leave Albania and has not returned since.

In 2020, the Special Court imposed the measure “Arrest in prison” for the criminal offenses “Kidnapping or holding a person hostage”, “Hiding and destroying a corpse”, “Trafficking in narcotics” and “Unlicensed possession of weapons”.
In 2015, the Fier Court sentenced him to 4 years in prison for falsifying official documents.
In 2013, the Court for Serious Crimes sentenced him to 25 years in prison for murder committed in collaboration and serious intentional injury.
In 2010, the Court of Appeals in Florence, Italy, sentenced him to 16 years in prison for participating in a structured criminal group and international drug trafficking, a sentence from which Rexhepi managed to escape.
